MakerSpaces a role for Libraries?

On November 28 a few of us will be attending a MakerSpace meetup and I'm excited to start thinking about what this may mean for us.  Pat just told me that a MakerSpace of some sort is on the Foundation's future fundraising list so it really should be in our future!  Let's do some brainstorming here.

  1. I don't know how feasible this is, but I think it would be great to do a trial MakerSpace. Get a small group of people from out in the community and a few of us together to talk about potential creations and to see what we already have to facilitate people's visions and ideas. I think it would help us better judge what we have and what we need.

Along the same lines, I'm sure there's plenty of creative software and tools that a lot of us already know how to use. I'm sure we could cut back costs if some of us felt confident running through the basics of programs we already know with each other. For other jobs I've had I've been trained on iMovie and InDesign, both of which(I think)we already have access to via the library.
